Market and Products (Source: Annual Report 2017)
The entire dairy market shows a reduction in consumption compared with the previous year, due to the negative trend that is affecting all of the sector’s segments, especially the Milk and Cream categories.
The milk category reported a negative performance on a volume basis in the main segments of Pasteurized and UHT Milk, but Parmalat, despite challenging market conditions, retained the leadership in both segments, thanks to the contribution of the Zymil brand.
Volumes were down year-over-year in the UHT Cream category, but the contraction was less significant on a value basis, thanks to an increase in prices for the entire category. While market conditions remained difficult during this period, Parmalat was able to further strengthen its market share, confirming its position as the category leader. Also worth mentioning is the success of the “Light” and “Small Size” products, which are continuing to grow at a rapid pace.
Consumption decreased in the Yogurt category compared with the previous year, due to a negative trend for Conventional Yogurt, while the Greek Yogurt and Lactose Free varieties enjoyed steady growth. The local subsidiary reported a slight reduction in market shares, despite a positive performance by the Zymil brand, which performed well also in this category.
In the Fruit Beverage area, the trend was positive with a sizeable increase in market volumes, owing in part to a favorable seasonality that encourage consumption of refreshing beverages. In this context, Parmalat held its market position unchanged.
