In 2017, considering a market perimeter comprised exclusively of the cheese categories in which the local subsidiary operates, consumption increased steadily, thanks mainly to positive performances in the Shredded Mozzarella and Fresh Mozzarella segments.
Among the three market segments in which the local subsidiary continues to hold a leadership position, only the Soft Ripened Cheese category confirmed a slightly positive trend during year, but the performance was negative for Chunk Mozzarella and Ricotta.
The Fresh Mozzarella, Shredded Mozzarella and Gourmet Cheddar proved to be the most dynamic segments of the entire Cheese category in 2017, with percentage gains both on volume and value basis. The local subsidiary held unchanged its competitive position.
Consumption of Snack Cheese held steady throughout the year, but the local subsidiary suffered a contraction both in volume and value terms and a loss of market share.
Opposing trends characterized the Feta Cheese and Gourmet Spreadable Cheese segments, negative for the former and positive for the latter. Parmalat retained the second-place competitive position in the Feta market.
The Grated Cheese segment, the latest category in which the local subsidiary has begun to compete, benefitted from a positive trend. Parmalat was able to significantly increase its value market share.
